Working Group Theatre
As the economies of midwestern states crumbled throughout the 1990’s, homegrown “cookers” in kitchen drug-labs and an international highway pipeline from Mexico created a Methamphetamine epidemic that destroyed individual lives and devastated communities.
Crystal Cities will examine the effects of Meth on Iowa’s families and communities. Working Group company members will participate in treatment programs, interview former addicts and producers of Meth, Iowa and US law enforcement, and local and state leaders. The goal of this research is to create a theatrical piece that will both inform our audience of the extent to which Meth has affected the lives of Iowans, and help prevent the further spread of the epidemic. Working Group intends to develop a touring show that can reach schools and communities across Iowa.
